‘Live at Carlisle’: Telling Belfast’s stories through new music.

Belfast Buildings Trust is a heritage regeneration charity that uses and resues what makes Belfast special. Established in 1996, we use the city’s unique stories to work with people on the places that matter to them and influence how Belfast changes. Belfast Buildings Trust believes that Belfast’s future prosperity relies on the stories and skills of its people and the places they have shaped and valued over generations. To make this a reality, the Trust delivers capital regeneration and community engagement projects that have physical, social and economic regeneration outcomes.

‘Live at Carlisle’ is an ambitious place and music engagement to celebrate Belfast’s creativity through music, shaped by Belfast people and using Belfast places. It has three strands: Commissions, Performances, and Creative Skills Development. 12 Belfast focused musicians will be commissioned to each create a 3-to-4-minute piece that represents something about Belfast. Each commission will be informed by experiences of people in the city through a story-sharing session between artists and a community group. The commissioned works will then be premiered as part of a series of monthly live gigs in Carlisle Memorial Church, one of the Trust’s current regeneration projects. The performances will be recorded and shared online as a legacy for future use.
