Ben McElroy : Open Fund for Music Creators

Ben McElroy

Ben is a Nottingham based artist who creates folk inspired soundscapes. To date he has released 9 albums, veering between ambient, folk and neo-classical. His album How i Learnt to Disengage From The Pack was described in The Guardian as: ‘A shivering seabed of sound, haunted by barely there vocals and stitched together with lo-fi production.’ He has also received positive reviews from Folk Radio UK and Songlines amongst others. Iggy Pop also played a track on his 6Music show. Armed with a laptop and a bundle of instruments, Ben can also be seen performing up and down the country.

Bringing a new album to life with collaborators and film

Ben will use the Open Fund for Music Creators to complete a new album. The work is already partly finished, recorded and performed at home by Ben. It will give him the opportunity to invite some fantastic collaborators and spend time in the studio finalizing and recording extra bits. The funding will also be used to create a video showcasing the work and adding another creative dimension to the music and to explore some DIY artwork techniques in the form of woodblock printing. The money will also ensure that Ben can pay himself for some of the project.
