Beth Roberts : Early Career Promoter Fund

Biog:

Beth Roberts is a vocalist, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist (Hands of the Heron, House of Figs, Tryani Collective, Hedera) who is deeply embedded in the Bristol folk scene. She founded Cuculi Records alongside her songwriting collaborators (Hands of the Heron) in 2020 as a space to release their own music, plus music from the DIY folk community. She began running ‘Cuculi Presents’ gigs in 2022 because there wasn’t a space suitable for the kind of atmosphere that they wanted to create – seated listening gigs with affordable tickets, providing concert respect with a gig vibe. Cuculi Presents programmes alt-folk / experimental / contemporary classical, usually featuring an emerging act as support, and an established local artist or national touring act as headliner. Their local audience is committed to creating a listening environment, and as grassroots artists themselves, they understand how much impact these live opportunities have on both the trajectory of individual careers and the vitality of the wider scene. Since 2022, Cuculi has hosted many well-attended gigs, featuring a broad array of artists whose music falls between genre lines including Fritillaries, Tamsin Elliott & Tarek Elazhary, tlk, Fran & Flora, Rachael Dadd, Pearl Love, Abderaouff Ouertani, Something Sleeps, JOW and Spindle Ensemble Beth Roberts has received funding from the PRS Foundation Early Career Promoter Fund to support a series of four Cuculi Presents gigs in Bristol, which will take place between Autumn 2024 and Spring 2025. The funding will also aid her development as a promoter through engaging with Saffron Records for DE&I training to widen their programming and curation with greater inclusivity awareness. Alongside this, she’ll spend time establishing a network of other grassroots musician-promoters across the UK, including a virtual summit to share ideas, knowledge and solutions to help independent touring artists & organisers.
