Blind Tiger Productions: Women Make Music

DEPLOYMENT is a new opera being developed by Blind Tiger Productions. The opera will tell the stories, in their own words, of women whose partners are (or have been) serving in the British Armed Forces on deployment abroad. The libretto is being created by Blind Tiger Productions director Catherine May from interviews and focus groups with women living in the Colchester area. The music will be written by Oscar-winning British composer, Anne Dudley.

DEPLOYMENT aims to uncover and illuminate the joys and challenges of a life married to the military and to build a platform for the story-telling of that life from the point of view of the women who are living it. Singing generally, and opera specifically, are unique modes of communication that allow for the expression and exploration of normally unspoken thoughts or feelings. The process of finding a voice – literally and metaphorically – can be a powerful tool for self-discovery and confidence-building, especially amongst people who are unaccustomed to being heard individually, and/or by society at large.
