Far From The Norm’s RECK

RECK is the next offering from Botis Seva and Far From The Norm after the critical and public success of Botis Seva’s Olivier award winning BLKDOG. A provocative evening of experimental Hip Hop theatre and contemporary dance, RECK will provide a narrative on the Black experience, cultural appropriation, and the development/celebration of Hip Hop as a social dance and communicative language.

Far From The Norm will work with long-standing collaborator Torben Lars Sylvest to develop an original soundscore for RECK. With support from the PRS Foundation, Far From The Norm artistic director Botis Seva and Torben will explore recording with live musicians for the first time in order to provide Torben the material needed to craft his signature experimental scores.

The sound development is a vital stimulus for the creative process of RECK; Botis will soundboard ideas with Torben to develop the choreography and sound palette simultaneously, creating new worlds for audiences to be immersed in aurally and transported to visually. “Torben Lars Sylvest’s muscular score is a marvel of eloquence. Based on the thumping, highly syncopated beats of hip hop, it nevertheless includes a large range of tonalities and moods, as well as seamlessly accommodating the spoken word.”Culture Whisper on BLKDOG, 202.

RECK is co-produced by Far From The Norm, Sadler’s Wells (UK), Théâtre de la Ville and Cergy-Pontoise Points Communs (France) and The Joyce (USA), co-commissioned by The Lowry, Warwick Arts Centre, Dance4, Brighton Dome  Festival.
