Stone Drawn Circles UK and Ireland Tour 2024
Featuring six trailblazing artists with exploratory music at the heart of their practice, Stone Drawn Circles inhabits a new space in Irish contemporary music. Each member is a dynamic figure in the contemporary music landscape, and the group has developed to explore new sounds created by a unique instrumentation (Michelle O’Rourke-voice, Nathan Sherman-viola, Lina Andonovska-flute, Una Monaghan-Irish harp/electronics, Caimin Gilmore-bass, Alex Petcu-percussion). The musicians believe in rich composer/performer dialogues and in the bending of traditional performance dynamics, and the ensemble have curated a programme of new works which reflects this interest, navigating through various genres and forms of contemporary sound art. This programme will feature works by Irish and Northern Irish composers Karen Power and Úna Monaghan, Australian Cate Hope, and Canadian Nicole Lizee. Their debut UK and Ireland tour, managed by the Contemporary Music Centre and supported by PRS Beyond Borders funding will also feature a new commission by Northern Irish composer Brian Irvine, whose dynamic and shape shifting music resonates with the ensemble’s creative vision. This programme of Irish and international works will be toured to New Music Dublin, Moving on Music (Belfast), Canolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth/Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Cafe OTO (London).
