Brian Irvine: Beyond Borders

For:

Thirteen Vices

Commissioned by:

Commissioned by Moving on Music, Belfast and the Red Note Ensemble, Edinburgh

Event date:

2015

Belfast born composer Brian Irvine’s Thirteen Vices brings together Scotland’s contemporary music group Red Note Ensemble with three of Europe’s finest free improvising musicians for an explosive re-imagining of Russian artist Mihail Chemiakin’s famous Moscow public sculpture – Children Are The Victims of Adult Vices.

Combining specially commissioned text and solo soprano the exaggerated, comical and grotesque figures of Chemiakins sculpture will be reborn into a unique and uncompromising world of sound.

Exhilarating stuff Brian Irvine’s body of work is an example of the musical treasures half hidden in the cracks between the categories….smart music in a culture that often over rewards the dumb and/or the well connected…. The Guardian

“Some of the most exhilarating and imaginative music you’ll ever hope to hear……musical play in the highest sense: exuberant, spontaneous and irresistibly alive.” Brian Irvine Ensemble- Washington Post
