Brighter Sound: Talent Development Partner 2023
Artist Development Programme
Brighter Sound is a pioneering music development organisation working across the North of England to support the music creators, leaders and industry professionals of the future. Their artist development programme will connect career artists with opportunities, supporting them to develop their creativity, their profile, their knowledge and their networks.
Brighter Sound’s work is rooted in activism, and in creating a fairer and more equitable music industry. Building on the success and impact of their gender equality programme ‘Both Sides Now’, this year’s artist development programme will continue to support musicians from marginalised racial, ethnic, sexual, socio-economic and gender identities.
Led by strong, diverse role models from across the music industry, and backed up by independent artist strategies with a focus on sustainable careers and wellbeing, Brighter Sound will collaborate with artists, organisations and festivals including Karen Nyame KG, Piano in the City, Angeline Morrison and The Great Escape to provide:
– Creative development opportunities (artistic residencies and commissions) to encourage innovation, originality and risk, and cultivate new collaborations
– National and international showcasing opportunities to champion Northern talent- Practical and bespoke career support, such as workshops, training and mentoring.
Alongside opportunities for artists across the North, Brighter Sound will continue to lobby for change through their Gender Equality Manifesto and as sector lead for Manchester’s membership to the international Music Cities Network to support Northern artists, and strengthen links between the North and the rest of the world.
