Britten Sinfonia: Talent Development Partner 2022-23

Britten Sinfonia: Talent Development Partner 2022-23

Britten Sinfonia’s commissioning and music creator development programmes

Britten Sinfonia is one of the UK’s most versatile chamber orchestras. Based in the east of England the orchestra delivers a range of programmes, from a headline concert series to reaching new audiences in areas of low engagement. A particular strength of the orchestra has always been its focus on new music. Through identifying, supporting, and developing emerging composers, as well as showcasing new music through commissioning a diverse range of UK composers.

In 2022/23 the orchestra’s commissioning programme will focus on commissioning new works from diverse and multi-ethnic UK based composers, seeking new sound worlds and fully representing the diversity of the UK’s arts scene. We will commission and/or perform new works from Alissa Firsova, Joseph Tawadros, Bushra El Turk, Manu Delago & Anoushka Shankar, Jacqueline Shave & Kuljit Bhamra, as well as two commissions from emerging composers for our Music on Your Doorstep community programme.

The orchestra will also run the Opus composer programme, an established training and development scheme for early career music creators. The scheme has recently been restructured to give more tailored technical and CPD support to music creators: Opus 1 for composers ‘on the first rung of the ladder’ and Magnum Opus, for early career composers. Opus composers are supported through a series of workshops, recordings, commissions and public performances. In addition to the commissions outlined above, we will commission an additional three pieces from our Magnum Opus composers.
