Bryony Jarman-Pinto: Women Make Music
Bio: Lancaster-based singer, songwriter, musician, and Jazz FM Award nominee Bryony Jarman-Pinto seamlessly blends enchanting vocals and thoughtful jazz instrumentation with intricately crafted personal lyrics, drawing inspiration from soul and folk influences. She has seen support from across BBC radio, and recorded live sessions for Gilles Peterson, Jazz FM, and Jo Whiley (BBC Radio 2). She has supported Roy Ayers and performed at Jazz Cafe, Manchester and Lancaster Jazz Festivals, Pizza Express Jazz and Wombat Jazz Club. Bryony was also chosen as one of the emerging jazz musicians for the Jazz North Northern Line programme and the Serious Take Five programme.
Project Description: Bryony is in a place of confidence in her creative ideas; writing from inspiration and not from imagined industry expectations of how her music “should” sound. This project will develop Bryony’s skills as a producer, giving way to an album with voice at its core that she has full creative control over. She wants to create an album that moves people, showcasing the joy of singing through the creation of interesting melodies and moving harmonies. The album will also feature Bryony’s mother, Jilly Jarman, on keys, bringing to life the familial storyline across the music, as well as other local musicians, showcasing Lancaster and the North West. The current UK Jazz scene is strong, and encourages improvisation and unique sounds. With voice as her primary instrument, Bryony can offer this scene something that’s missing – a sound that puts explorative, improvisational songwriting with harmonies at its core.
