Camerata Alma Viva: The Open Fund for Organisations

For:

4 x 4: Ephemeral Architectures, 4 jugglers and 4 dancers

Tracing pathways in space, 4 jugglers, 4 ballet dancers and a string quintet share a stage for the first time.

4 x 4 is a collaboration between two worlds: ballet and juggling. Both these formalised systems are ephemeral journeys through time and space, leaving an unseen trace, like an imaginary architecture. 4 x 4 is a celebration of where these paths meet.

4 x 4 sees the sensational Gandini Juggling returning to its love affair with pure patterns and mathematics. Following the international success of Smashed, this new work takes us on fleeting journeys through time and space in a unique dialogue between jugglers and ballet dancers. At first glance these two diverse art forms seem like curious bedfellows. The year we have spent with them has convinced us otherwise, it seems to us that they are old friends, or that somewhere in a distant imaginary past they came from the same branch of mathematics.

4×4 is a co-production between Gandini Juggling, National Centre for Circus Arts, Lighthouse, Poole and La Breche, Pôle national des Arts du Cirque de Basse-Normandie /Cherbourg-Octeville.

Supported by The Royal Ballet Studio Programme, Arts Council England, Agit Cirk, Shoreditch Town Hall and Jacksons Lane.
