CMW Showcase Performance

Throwing Shade is a rising London-based producer, DJ and NTS Radio Presenter. Dazed and Confused magazine have hailed her as “London’s new alt-pop hope” and she has been receiving similarly positive accolades throughout the music press, by the likes of Pitchfork, Mixmag, Dummy, Fact, The Guardian, NME and The Fader. This year she is following up her previous releases on No Pain In Pop, Happy Skull, and Ominira, with her fifth EP, entitled House Of Silk, which is being released via Ninja Tune on March 4. Her sound has been described as “cosmic R&B” and “paranormal pop”. In November 2014 she was commissioned by the Tate to compose a piece of music for the Turner Prize, and has since performed live in both the Tate Modern and the Tate Britain. In 2015 she appeared at a number of festivals: Bestival, Worldwide and Field Maneuvres. For 2016, she is so far set to perform at SXSW in the US, Inner Varnika Festival in Australia, and Canadian Music Week. The PRS Foundation have kindly offered Throwing Shade a funding award in order to help her finance her trip to Canadian Music Week in Toronto, taking place in May 2016.
