Cariss Auburn: Women Make Music
Cariss Auburn is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer from Wolverhampton. Her soul-pop electronica pairs emotive, conversational lyrics with ’90s layered harmonies to navigate topics of longing and frustration. Since releasing her debut EP ‘Unphased’ to local radio support and a place on Glastonbury Emerging Talent Contest’s longlist, Cariss’ recent releases have attracted international radio-play and attention from notable publications including Fresh On The Net, Come Here Floyd and The Unsigned Guide’s Spotlight.
Seeing music as a means of catharsis, Cariss’ new EP, supported by Women Make Music, aims to be an open conversation on her own mental health. The PRS Foundation funding will enable Cariss to create a music video for the lead single from the EP and work with a PR and radio team to build on existing support from the likes of BBC Introducing (Alex Noble) and Capital Xtra (Leah Davis) as she establishes herself as a rising star from the Midlands and one to watch in the UK.
Though the heart of Cariss’ sound is rooted in the influence of the ’80s funk and soul she heard played around the house as a child, her musical inspirations, ranging from Arcade Fire to Cécile McClorin Salvant, underpin an exciting time of experimentation as she leans into introspection in her writing and discards genre confines.
