Carrie Penn: Prelude
Bio: Carrie is a London-based composer working across film, television, games and theatre. From sweeping orchestral scores to grungy punk-infused guitar riffs, Carrie’s versatile approach to scoring creates a sound world unique to each project. A recent highlight was composing for the Grierson-nominated documentary ‘Hooked’, which won the Documentary Short Grand Jury Prize at the Slamdance Film Festival and was praised by critics. A skilled orchestrator, Carrie’s credits include additional orchestration for the feature film ‘They Call Him Og’, recorded at AIR Studios. They also work as a composing assistant, and recently assisted Anne Nikitin on her upcoming television projects. Carrie began their career in theatre, composing for two full-length musicals: ‘Persephone’, nominated for Broadway World’s Best New Production following a national tour in 2022, and ‘IrrePRESSible’, which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2023. A highly accomplished violinist, Carrie’s playing features on a range of scores, including ‘The Crow Girl’, ‘Brianna: A Mother’s Story’, and the Netflix thriller ‘Hijack’. Carrie holds an MA in Composition from the National Film and Television School, and a first-class BA in Music from the University of Oxford.
