Catherine Carter: Women Make Music

Catherine will use the Women Make Music Grant to record the music for the new HurlyBurly production ‘After Party’. ‘After Party’ is an immersive musical experience for babies and the grownups in their lives that celebrates and bears witness to the enormous transformation that takes place when a new child is born. The show will tour the UK from April 2026.

‘After Party’ is created by Sarah Forbes and Catherine Carter and is a continuation of HurlyBurly Theatre’s ongoing exploration of how musical theatrical spaces and particularly the voice can offer powerful playful and connective experiences for babies and the grownups in their lives.

Carter’s work grows roots of connection both to the Earth and a new born baby, using music and creative performance as a way of connecting with babies at a time of metamorphosis, for parent and child.’ Sara Mohr Pietsch, BBC Radio 3 Night Tracks.
