Cherelle Fulton : Early Career Promoter Fund
Concise Project Description : This will fund BCD collective to host several residency events in grassroots venues, by platforming women of colour and strengthening the community through live music.
Biog :
Cherelle, known as Lemon Eye, is a Nottingham-based DJ, Event Producer, and Community Facilitator. She is the founder of Can’t Stand The Rain (CSTR), a Black female-led organisation dedicated to creating bold, authentic events that amplify underrepresented voices. Her work is rooted in community, culture, and creativity, ensuring that Black artists and creatives have space to thrive.
CSTR was born in 2020 during the height of the BLM movement, when Cherelle transformed grief & frustration into action by turning her back garden into a powerful space for collective release and joy. That night, she raised £900 for the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust – and the momentum never stopped. Since then, CSTR has grown, curating events that bring people together through music, energy, and shared experience.
In 2024, she founded Behind Closed Doors (BCD), a collective dedicated to uplifting women creatives, championing diversity, and shaking up the industry. From programming some of Nottingham’s most exciting live events to collaborating with groundbreaking artists like CBliminal, JayaHadADream, HarleighBlu, Molly and Jazzie Martian, Cherelle has become a key force in the city’s independent music scene.
With this funding, Cherelle and BCD will take over Nottingham’s grassroots venues, delivering a game-changing residency series that puts women – especially women of colour at the forefront of the music scene. Expect high-energy live performances, electrifying DJ nights, and inspiring creative workshops, all showcasing some of the most exciting local and regional talent.
From Gqom to UK Garage, Dancehall to Baile Funk, these events will celebrate the talent, visibility, and cultural impact of women in music. More than just gigs – these are cultural moments, built on connection, community, and creative expression. By bringing together artists, industry leaders, and music lovers, Cherelle is making sure that Nottingham’s music scene isn’t just diverse-it’s thriving, inclusive, and built to last.
