Cleo Sol’s inspirations derive from her parents musical passions, shuffling through a record collection of classics across Motown, Reggae, Latin, and Acid Jazz. Cleo developed her own taste, inspired by pop culture of the day. Akin to millions of other young girls, Cleo loved the Spice Girls, and wanted to grow up to be flame-haired Geri. These days she’s loving House music, Ed Sheeran, Wretch 32 and Frank Ocean.
After posting a few tracks onto her MySpace page in her late teens, veteran underground producer Davinche (Kano’s P’s & Q’s) spotted the singer and asked her to collaborate on some tracks.
The partnership with Davinche led to tracks with Tinie Tempah on ‘Tears’, Wretch 32’s ‘Dancefloor’, Davinche’s ‘Hero’ and ‘Riding for Love’ alongside Bashy.
Her promo tracks in 2011 ‘LoveBass’ and ‘Call for Me’ received heavy support from BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Kiss FM, Choice and Rinse DJs ( inc Swerve, Trevor Nelson, Target, Manny Norte, Ace n Vis and Ronnie Herrel). ‘Call for Me’ was selected by Twin B as 1Xtra’s ‘Best of British Track of the Week’ in early May 2011.
Cleo’s independent debut single ‘High’ (September 2011) achieved great underground success, playlisted on BBC Radio 1xtra & Choice FM as well as steady rotation on Radio 1, Kiss FM, Rinse FM & spins on TV channels 4Music, MTV Base, The Box, Channel AKA, Flava, Starz and others.
Cleo graced the stage at the T4 On The Beach & Lovebox festivals during the summer.
In addition to receiving key TV & radio play, industry taste-makers (including MTV, MOBO) have marked her as a ‘one to watch in 2012.
This didn’t go unnoticed as Cleo signed her first major deal with Island Records in December.
Cleo is currently working on her first Island release due Spring 2012.
