Short Project Title: All Music Must Start Somehwhere – YR 3
Organisation Biog: Cobalt is a grassroots, DIY , hands on ,multi faceted arts organisation with a strong focus on affordability & accessibility.We believe that culture is transformative and our work is to empower absolutely everybody to feel able to experience culture or to be creative and music is our key focus . In particular we support new, experimental music and young musicians. We take pride in creating space for the unheard, the unseen and harder to place music that does not sit easily within mainstream cultural organisations.
Program Description: Our Talent Development program will show case new music, film gigs and showcase them on our TV channel & create 3 ‘Risk Takers Mini- Residencies’.Our focus is to work with under-represented artists, early career musicians and established musicians making experimental, risk taking work. The genre focus will be global, fusion, experimental, genre defying, alt folk, jazz & jazz fusion, electronic, new classical & improvised.Vision is to be an exemplary grassroots venue and creative ecosystem leading the way with showcasing, nurturing and profiling new and underrepresented music and musicians.Our plan sees Cobalt supporting experimental, marginalised and brand new music operating by creating opportunities for gigs, peer learning, playing, improvisation, experimenting and collaborating all the way to audience building via sharing events and a digital gig archive
