Roxanna Panufnik: The Composers’ Fund
Roxanna Panufnik b.1968 ARAM, GRSM(hons), LRAM studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music and, since then, has written a wide range of pieces – opera, ballet, music theatre, choral works, orchestral and chamber compositions, and music for film and television – which are performed all over the world. She has a great love of music from a huge variety of cultures and different faiths, whose influence she uses liberally through out her compositions. Her works are published by Peter’s Edition Ltd and recorded on many labels including Warner Classics, Chandos, Signum and EMI Classics.
“Celestial Bird” is a new recording with Ex Cathedra (to be released by Signum Records, Autumn 2018) of Roxanna Panufnik’s previously unrecorded choral works, alongside a programme of high-profile concerts and premieres during her 50th birthday year. Tracks will include a new commission “Child of Heaven”; the poignant and romantic “Since we parted” about lovers separated by World War I (coinciding with 2018’s centenary commemorations) and a high voltage collaboration with South Asian musicians of Milapfest, “Unending Love”, a blend of English Choral tradition, a carnatic singer and Indian instrumentation, performing Western harmonies infused with Indian modes.
