Crewdson & Cevanne: The Open Fund for Music Creators
For:
New Music Through Folk and Electronics
Crewdson and Cevanne first met live on air when they both appeared on Resonance FM for an LSO Soundhub programme last year. They decided to jump right into an ‘on air’ improvisation then and there despite having never heard each other play before and a new project was born. Crewdson builds his own obscure electronic musical instruments – including the Concertronica, Sonic Bonnet and Odd Box -which he plays whilst singing and Cevanne is a harp player and vocalist. Their music focuses on space, place and stories told through harp, voice, recordings and electronics. The result is a collection of modern British folk songs that inhabit a world straddling the traditional and the avant garde. There handful of live performances to date include shows at Handel House Museum, Limewharf, Union Chapel and LSO St Lukes.
The body of work that they have written over the past year is now going to be recorded and produced before being showcased at a live event alongside other new british folk/electronic crossover artists. This project aims to highlight a growing area of innovative british music, merging the most traditional of musical styles with a new approach through various forms of musical technology – live sampling, bespoke controllers and aural narrative on a bed of place specific recordings.
