Dana Gavanski: Momentum
Born in Vancouver to a Serbian family, Dana had always harboured a desire to sing. In her final year of university in Montreal, she picked up the guitar left by her ex-partner and decided to re-learn. Saving the money she made assisting her Dad in film shoots Dana poured her heart and finances into what would become her ‘Spring Demos’, which she uploaded to Bandcamp in 2018. Soon after, catching the ears of labels and journalists in the UK Dana moved over to London, signed to Full Time Hobby and recorded her debut album ‘Yesterday Is Gone’, co-producing it herself with the help of Mike Lindsay of Tunng and Lump.
6Music A-listed her single ‘Catch’ at the end of 2019 and Dana toured the UK and Europe with Damien Jurado, recorded two sessions for 6Music, while the station also made her album an Album of the Day. Dana’s debut ‘Yesterday Is Gone’ was launched at the end of March 2020, with praise from the likes of Line Of Best Fit, Loud & Quiet, UNCUT, CLASH & Shindig. Covid 19 and lockdown saw Dana’s touring and promotion plans derailed but undeterred, she finished off a set of glorious covers making up her ‘Wind Songs’ EP for release in August 2020.
Momentum funding will help Dana produce live AV, promotional videos and also continue to write, demo and record while the effects of lockdown still linger, giving her time to work on her second album for release in 2021.
