Dante or Die Theatre: Open Fund for Organisations

Kiss Marry Kill is the next production by leading site-specific theatre company, Dante or Die, and is inspired by the first same-sex marriage in a UK prison. Through a fictional take on this fascinating true story, audiences will experience a visceral new production that fuses music, movement and Dante or Die’s trademark up-close-and-personal storytelling.

The production will be performed by a male ensemble of ex-prisoners and by contrast, a female rapper, Lady Lykez. PRS Funding has enabled us to commission Lady Lykez to collaborate with our composer Yaniv Fridel, to write music and lyrics, bringing a fresh, unique voice to the production and providing its emotional heart.

Dante or Die began working with Lykez in Summer 2019, when she participated in a period of development involving workshops with ex-prisoners around the show’s provocative themes of masculinity & sexuality. Lykez then wrote lyrics & music with Yaniv Fridel, based on these sessions. This collaborative composition and lyric writing process was hugely beneficial to the evolution of the show. We are excited to continue working in this way, to create a truthful and emotionally resonant production, to be performed on tour in 2021.

Dante or Die Theatre has been making bold and ambitious site-specific performances since 2006, touring across the UK and internationally.

Lady Lykez is London based and at an emerging-mid career level. Her work is versatile, energetic, full of feeling and she works in the genres of rap, hip-hop, Gqom, grime and dancehall.
