Des Agyekumhene: Power Up Industry Professionals

Des Agyekumhene

Artist Manager & NFT Consultant

With an ambition to help impact the way the world experiences music through blockchain technology, Des finds himself in a unique position of being an academic and blockchain enthusiast working in the music business. Des is a music manager currently undertaking doctoral legal research at the University of Edinburgh, School of Law.

Committing himself to leverage his experiences to research and help artists engage with fans in today’s digital landscape, Des has also participated in the wider policy affairs surrounding remuneration rights, intellectual property, and copyright law within the industry. His doctoral thesis titled “Is online streaming akin to radio, a digital download, or a derived hybrid?”, examines the development of streaming services in the entertainment industry, in order to assess if the legal regime policing the rights of creators is fit for purpose in this evolving digital landscape.

Des is incredibly bullish on blockchain technology/cryptocurrencies and was an early UK user of Binance in 2017 (the largest crypto-asset exchange in the world). As an early supporter of Binance, he volunteered on their Angel program to help new users on the platform and aid in the growth and maintenance of the Binance community. His involvement with the crypto space has since evolved to co-founding one of the UK’s first Non-Fungible Token (NFT) brokerage agencies, “Soga.World”. With a deep understanding of how blockchain technology can be adopted to solve issues within the music industry, Des is uniquely positioned to be at the forefront of this revolutionary paradigm shift.

“I really appreciate being selected to be a part of the POWER UP Network and look forward to using this platform to learn from others within the network and share my experiences.” Des Agyekumhene
