Dobrinka Tabakova: The Composers’ Fund
Dobrinka Tabakova is a composer of ‘exciting, deeply moving’ music (Washington Times), with ‘glowing tonal harmonies and grand, sweeping gestures [which] convey a huge emotional depth’ (The Strad). She has been commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society, BBC Radio 3 and the European Broadcasting Union. Her debut profile album ‘String Paths’, on ECM Records, was nominated for a Grammy in 2014. In 2017 she was appointed composer-in-residence with the BBC Concert Orchestra. Dobrinka has also been resident composer with the Halle Orchestra and Truro Cathedral. An album of her choral works, recorded by the BBC Concert Orchestra and Truro Cathedral for the Regent label was Gramophone Magazine Critics’ Choice in 2019, while her orchestral music album, recorded by The Halle Orchestra was nominated for a BBC Music Magazine Award in 2024. In 2023, Dobrinka received an Ivor Composer Award for her ‘Swarm Fanfares’ written for the Halle Youth Orchestra. Dobrinka’s music is published by Schott Music.
Chamber and Chamber Orchestra Recording Projects
The PRS Foundation Composers’ Fund will support two forthcoming recording projects- a chamber music album on the NMC label, as well as a chamber orchestra album on the ECM label. Following the release of my first profile album on the ECM New Series label in 2013, I am looking forward to collaborating with the label on an album of recent concerto and chamber orchestra works. The chamber music album is the first compilation of some of my chamber works, performed by artists from ‘Off the Beaten Path’ Festival, with whom I have worked for a number of years.
