Bio: Dominique has composed for theatre, opera, chamber ensembles, art installations, dance, film, television and radio drama for BBC Radio 3 and 4. A former associate Artist of the Royal Opera House and Manning Camerata, Dominique’s music has been commissioned and performed by BBC Radio 3 Proms, Southbank Sinfonia, ORA Singers, Nevis Ensemble, Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Calabash Foundation for the Arts (Trinidad) and Hasselblad Laureat Ingrid Pollard. Her concerto for orchestra, for BBC Concert Orchestra premiered in March ’24 while her Missa Brevis was premiered at Canterbury Cathedral in November ’24 and sung at Easter Sunday services this year.
Project Description: Dominique will use the Women Make Music Grant to record her new album Portraits for Guitar with guitarist Ahmed Dickinson Cardenas and Convivum records in December this year. Dominique and Ahmed wanted to bring together music by living composers from Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago and the UK, home to both artists. Their agents, Hennessey Brown Music proposed the project to Convivium records. The album will include a new suite Dominique has been composing for Ahmed, Six Sketches for Guitar, and which was awarded support in March by The Hollick Family Foundation. Music by Cuban composers Flores Chaviano, Walfrido Dominguez and UK composer Stephen Goss along with Dominique’s Tongoy Triptych and her new suite, will offer listeners a panorama of evocative portraits in conversation with each other, revealing the guitar’s wide expressive range, the composers’ musical heritage and transcending borders.
Short Project Title: Portraits for Guitar- contemporary classical guitar music by living composers.
