Donna McKevitt: The Composers’ Fund
New work for voices and orchestra
Donna McKevitt has written for some incredible vocal ensembles and learnt so much from that experience. McKevitt is going to spend some time developing a new concert work for voices and orchestra. Most commissions come with set instrumentation, text or concept and the joy of this is McKevit can make anything she wants to, so part of the process will be researching and taking the time to think about what she wants to create.
Donna McKevitt writes for film, contemporary dance and concert. Her Opus 1 was a song cycle called Translucence which was released on Warner Classics: settings of Derek Jarman’s poetry featuring the counter tenor Michael Chance. Her dance scores have been premiered at the Royal Opera House, Sadler’s Wells and The Edinburgh Festival while she has written choral commissions for The Gesualdo Six, The Marian Consort and The ORA Singers.
So far this year, Donna has written the score for the film ‘The Story of Looking’ by acclaimed director Mark Cousins, has collaborated with Maxine Peake on the play ‘Bitterenders’ by Hannah Khalil and had two new works performed by the vocal ensembles Voces8 and Apollo5 in their Live from London Summer concert series. She is currently working on a new film score to be announced soon.
