Emmeline: Women Make Music
About: Emmeline is a 24-year-old writer, performer, and musician originally from West Yorkshire, now based in East London. She blends sonic influences with a literary flair to create a music that is part spoken-word, part alternative hip-hop, part entrancing melody. She has worked with the likes of super producer Fraser T Smith (Dave, Adele, Stormzy) as well as supporting The Streets on tour, and has most recently released a debut mixtape with independent record label Lewis Recordings called ‘Shapes, Shadows, DVDs’. She has played her second ever headline show this year at the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room.
Emmeline – The Making of Music and Live Performance
For almost two years I have been carving out my own sonic identity within the music industry, establishing myself as a lyrics-first and speech-driver performer, who holds the power of words to high esteem in everything I do. I am a big believer that in the industry there is an emerging appreciation for female performers who bring narrative and story-driven music to the stage. It is my desire to use this grant to aid the production of four tracks, and their live performance, in order to continue building on these values, and some early career successes. The funding will allow me to continue my work with independent record label Lewis Recordings, who are generous in letting me have creative and visual control over the music. I plan to work with upcoming artists and producers to collaborate on the music, and perform it live throughout 2025.
