Ergo Phizmiz presents a mechanico-musico-fantasia of dreams, war, composition, collage and the language of music. In 1939, on the cusp of World War II, two child stars of the heyday of variety theatre infiltrate a Nazi plot communicated through inconsistencies lurking inside arrangements of pop songs. Beneath starry skies and the strange magick of a threatening reality, a musical framework emerges which connects a Fox & Cat with Noel Coward’s secret wartime occupation, the floating magickal aether of radio, the mechanics of how a pop song functions, the very definite threat of a fascist ideology infiltrating the lives of everybody you love, and the moon which throbs with the melancholy ache of Al Bowlly and the lost world and dreams of the 1930s.
