Concise Description of activity: Two shows across the UK in 2026 to commemorate the legacy of Bill Dixon on his centenarary, including workshops, musical performance, dance, and panel discussions.
Bio: This is a year-long project, celebrating the centenary year of the composer, educator, and artist, Bill Dixon. This consists of several days, across the UK, of listening-to and learning about his life. Each day will begin with an open rehearsal, led by Sam Eastmond, teaching Bill’s compositions. In the build up to these dates, we will spread the word to local musicians, inviting them to participate. This will be followed by a panel discussion where we will reflect on Dixon’s legacy. After the panel, a quartet, led by Eastmond, will play Bill’s compositions, the selection of which has been in collaboration with the Bill Dixon Living Trust, a group of musicians elected by Dixon to act as stewards of his material. To close the day, the rehearsal participants will be invited to play with the quartet.
