Shame: International Showcase Fund (Eurosonic 2017)
Emerging from a raucous cacophony of bristling guitars, unhinged live shows and gloriously reckless attitudes are South London five-piece Shame, destined to be one of the most talked about bands in 2017, if not one of the most hotly tipped. By now you would have heard the menacing “Gold Hole”, but now comes The Lick”, their snarling riposte to modern society and a future punk anthem full to overflowing with the well-earned rage and confusion of youth. Think Mark E. Smith at his most vitriolic backed by Slint and you’re somewhat close – this is rock at its most vital, searing and incendiary. Produced by Local Hero (Dan Foat and Nathan Boddy), this is a startling one two punch straight to the gut, and will surely stand as one of the most exciting introductions to a band for a good long while.
“One of the most watched and crucially most talked about live bands in London”–Loud and Quiet
“Brooding menace…they find themselves at the forefront of a compelling new scene in the capital”–NME
“A filthy mess of The Doors, Sleaford Mods and The Pixies”–Guardian
