Evan Parker has been a source of undiminished creativity in music for over 50 years. His music stretches the boundaries of any genre. A constant collaborator and generous advocate of new music, in 2014 he will be celebrating his 70th birthday. Graham McKenzie and Alasdair Campbell have worked with Evan on many occasions over these years and think it is important to commission Evan to create something new for a series of events in 2014/15
“lt is not enough to think, one also has to breathe. Dangerous are the thinkers who have not breathed enough.” Evan’s music does both.
“This project follows on from an album I made with Sten Sandell in 2010. In Sandell’s hands the church organ while retaining the solemn gravitas you expect turns into a whole symphony of sounds – flute like, drones, violin quartet dissonance and much more wouldn’t anticipate. I am keen to work with this range of sounds again and to create a series of new works that will fully utilise the range and dynamics of the individual spaces. We recorded six pieces previously in a single space – the opportunity to work across 10 -12 spaces the possibilities are limitless!” Evan Parker.
