Nancy Kerr: International Showcase Fund (Folk Alliance International)
For:
Folk Alliance 2016 - Nancy Kerr
This grant forms the major contribution to help English songwriter and BBC Radio 2 “Folk Singer of the Year” Nancy Kerr showcase her band “Nancy Kerr & The Sweet Visitor Band” to travel to and stay at the Folk Alliance International Conference Kansas 2016.
This is a major opportunity for Nancy to present her original music and outstanding band to a wider audience, with a particular focus on making new contacts for potential future tours in North America, especially Canada. Nancy Kerr is one of the most widely acclaimed English folk artists to emerge in the last few decades, and has released albums with Eliza Carthy, James Fagan, Martin Simpson and Andy Cutting and with her own band. Her 2014 release Sweet Visitor was warmly received, showing her progression from a traditional singer in her early days to a busy and highly individual songwriter. This combined with her part in major English folk projects including The Full English, The Elizabethan Session and Simpson Cutting Kerr saw her awarded the coveted “Folk Singer of the Year” at the 2015 BBC Folk Awards.
