Fusebox is a monthly showcase for music on the fringes of jazz which include elements and influences of experimental, improvised, electronic, world /roots music and perhaps best described as “music beyond category”. Leeds is fortunate to be a base for a large number of innovative musicians and composers and many of our concerts provide opportunities to premiere new compositions, develop and sharpen new music sometimes prior to recording or wider performance and launch CD releases.
Musicians and bands from the wider national and international scene have been attracted by the Fusebox approach and we have welcomed musicians from London, Newcastle, Norway and New York as well as a live recording for BBC Jazz on 3. Fusebox intends to develop an audience that appreciate the unexpected, the experimental and are open to almost any format. This can range from a duo, power trios, improvising quartets, 16 piece big bands to a 30 voice improvising choir.
Fusebox is developing with additional special extra concerts and collaborations while keeping its regular monthly concerts at the Fox and Newt in Leeds as its core activity. Fusebox’s key role is as an advocate for music and musicians.
Funding from PRSF is enabling Fusebox to kickstart new developments such as FuseFilm and the Fusebox Composers Orchestra.
