Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra (GIO) has forged an international reputation for adventurous collaborations and innovative practice through engaging audiences with new music since 2002.

PRS for Music Foundation is supporting GIO’s programme of events for 2014, including:

  • Norman McLaren Film Festival 2nd & 3rd May – concert for inauguration of new Reid Building at Glasgow School of Art with original music by GIO
  • Development and launch of GIO’s new multi-disciplinary composition for large ensemble: ‘Connected Elements’
  • Glasgow International Jazz Festival concert at Glasgow City Halls (with guest Evan Parker, celebrating his 70th Birthday)
  • Education Workshop Programme and Summer School: monthly programme of improvisation & composition workshops and a Summer School in August open to all the community (with a focus on developing past work with children/adults/special needs) culminating in a public concert
  • GIOfest7, CCA Glasgow November 2014: International Festival of Improvised Music
The festival, celebrating improvised music, showcases new music, including world premieres, international guest artists, films, discussion and workshops. The festival will include cross art-form collaborations and we also include a programme of open public participative workshops and discussions.
