New Commission for the Gould Piano Trio by Mark Simpson

The Gould Piano Trio are delighted to have received support from Beyond Borders and the PRS for Music Foundation for the commission of a brand new work by young British composer Mark Simpson. We will perform this new work widely during 2017, as the centrepiece of our 25th anniversary celebrations during that year.
One of the finest ensembles of its kind performing today, the Gould Piano Trio has a widely diverse repertoire and ever-expanding discography, displaying a strong stylistic conviction appreciated by audiences and critics alike. Concerts at major venues such as Wigmore and Carnegie Halls, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and tours of North and South America, Europe, the Far East – and closer to home in the UK – have introduced them to a wide and varied public.
British composer and clarinettist Mark Simpson became the first ever winner of both the BBC Young Musician of the Year and BBC Proms/Guardian Young Composer of the Year competitions almost a decade ago. Most recently, he impressed with a high profile appointment as the BBC Philharmonic’s new Composer-in-Association and received critical acclaim for his latest work, large scale oratorio The Immortal, premiered at the Manchester International Festival in July 2015.
For the occasion of our 25th anniversary year, the Gould Piano Trio can think of no better way to celebrate than to organise a premiere tour of a new work by one of our country’s brightest talents, bringing this exciting new music to audiences across the UK and Ireland.
