Grace Stubbings: PPL Momentum Accelerator Industry Professional
Project Title: Mentorship in Environmental Sound & Community Practice
Bio:
Grace Stubbings is a musician, sound artist, producer, and facilitator from Hartlepool, known for her work as the keyboardist in Venus Grrrls and as co-director of We Make Sound, a free community music programme empowering young people across the North East. Her practice blends composition, field recording, and socially engaged sound work, often exploring underwater and environmental listening.
Supported by the PPL Momentum Accelerator, Grace is undertaking mentorship with a local sound artist and Professor of Sonic Systems to deepen her technical skills in environmental recording, installation work, and creative leadership. She will develop new techniques using hydrophones and contact microphones, including recording plants and fungi, to create immersive sound pieces and expand her workshops for young people and to intergrate into her compositional work. This support will enable Grace to strengthen her artistic practice, grow her community impact, and advance her role as an emerging voice in experimental sound and place-based creative education.
