Harrogate International Festival
The PRS for Music funding allowed the Harrogate International Festivals to commission a new piece of work by folk collective Tunng www.tunng.co.uk , with a vision to allow us to engage with audiences in a new & exciting way through the use of QR (quick response) codes, an emerging force in the world of mobile marketing & smart phones– code attached. This commissioned work is available through QR codes which directs the audience to the website www.whoarethey.posterous.com where they can listen on-line through the website until 31st July 2011. The QR codes are found on all Festival literature (around 80,000 pieces), pavement stickers, Audience Questionnaires, Spiegeltent flyers and the website encourages the listener to respond to the music and how they originally discovered the website. Social media is also being used through the @whoarethey2011 Twitter feed.
Both the method and the artists create a new artistic direction for the festival and show a commitment to harnessing new technology to reach new audiences whilst ensuring access for more traditional audiences through traditional marketing tools to direct people to the website.
