Hit the Road takes young artists and bands between the ages of 14-19 on their first professional tours across Scotland. Each act headlines their own home town, allowing them to build a local fanbase of friends and peers. Whilst on tour, the young people learn the realities of touring first-hand, meeting relevant industry professionals such as tour managers, promoters, sound engineers and stage techs, and attending workshops on topics such as social media, photography, and using video to promote their music. The project’s main objective is to nurture the next generation of young musicians & writers within Scotland and to provide them with a platform to launch their professional music careers while also supporting promoters in urban and rural venues to attract audiences from the 14-19 age group.
Access to live music is limited for many young people throughout Scotland: due to licensing restrictions in most venues (especially rural areas), only those aged 18 and over can attend. Hit The Road works with venues and promoters to ensure 14+ licenses, giving young people an unparalleled opportunity to experience live music amongst their peers. To date, Hit the Road has toured Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness, with an increasing focus on rural areas such as Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, Kinloss in the Highlands, Dumfries in Southern Scotland, Dundee in Tayside and Ayr in Ayrshire.
