Jasdeep Singh Degun: The Composers’ Fund
This activity is a new Indian classical solo work for sitar and accompaniment titled, Absolution. The project will culminate in a live studio recording of the work using innovative and modern recording techniques.
Jasdeep Singh Degun is a classically trained Sitar player and composer, and has been studying Indian classical music for over 18 years under the guidance of Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE. He was awarded ‘Musician of the Year’ at the NIAA’s 2016, and received a Sky Academy Arts Scholarship to work on his debut album, Anomaly, under the mentorship of Nitin Sawhney.
As a composer, Degun has written and arranged music for contemporary classical ensembles, film scores, and for high profile music productions. He wrote the soundtrack to the independent short film ‘Taraash’, composed and directed the music for the production ‘India’s Children: Partition’ (commissioned by Opera North and South Asian Arts-uk), and, in 2019, was commissioned to write and perform a new concerto for Sitar and orchestra, titled Arya, which toured nationally with the Orchestra of Opera North in Feb/March 2020.
