Jean Hayes : Early Career Promoter Fund
Concise Project Description : As a black woman I am putting on a series of live events showcasing the true diversity of the indie rock grass roots music scenes.
This summer, Jean Genie’s Panda Power All Dayer is set to showcase exciting up-and-coming talents in the grassroots scene at the fantastic Stanley Arts. Jean Genie served as a broadcast assistant at XFM and BBC 6 Music, tirelessly promoting new music – Jean Genie grew into promoting through her passion for live music launching her electrifying Panda Power nights at iconic venues like The Social, The Amersham Arms and The New Cross Inn. Fiercely committed to fair pay for artists, she became a warrior for the live grassroots music cause, joining the Music Venues Trust’s Own Our Venues campaign to rescue The Ferret in Preston from oblivion. In a powerful display of community spirit, she rallied local musicians to create an anthem for the venue, scoring airplay on national radio, BBC TV, and ITV. A true champion of the underground, Jean Genie wielded her pen at ASBO Magazine, promoting the new and bold as an Editor and Music Director.
