Jodie Nicholson : Open Fund for Music Creators
Jodie Nicholson
Based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Jodie Nicholson uses brooding chamber-pop and synth-laden alt-pop to navigate many of the different relationships we have in our lives: friends, family, relationships with ourselves and, more personally, her changing relationship with music. From infectious, anthemic tracks through to more spacious, melancholic tracks, Nicholson takes the listener on intimate journeys of minimalism and melancholy through to blooming, euphoric ends. Her signature harmonies and ethereal, reed-like vocals remain a compelling constant. Exploring themes of escapism, nostalgia, self-reflection and changes of heart, Nicholson leans on musical influences including Daughter, Matt Corby, The National, Warpaint, Lucy Rose and Laura Marling.
Record and release a brand new EP
Jodie will use her Open Fund for Music Creators grant to record and release a brand new EP, which will be built around co-writing and collaboration with artists including Old Sea Brigade, Pet Snake and Cattle & Cane. Jodie will self-produce the EP at Blank Studios in Newcastle, working with session musicians such as Francesca Knowles and Ceitidh Mac. As a solo artist, support from PRS Foundation is giving Jodie the opportunity to join forces with other creatives and create music in a different way to how she has previously worked. Being able to follow up her recent album ‘Safe Hands’ with new music in a timely manner will also ensure that Jodie can build on the support she’s been getting in 2024 from the likes of BBC Radio 1, The Line of Best Fit, Louder Than War, Atwood, BBC Radio 6 Music, Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and many more.
