Pianist/composer Jonathan Gee is one of Europe’s most celebrated jazz musicians. Although he has occupied the piano chair for legends such as Mark Murphy, Joe Lovano and David Murray it is as a trio specialist he is best known. The centre of gravity for his trios has moved from London to Italy, and now New York where his current musical partners bassist Joseph Lepore and drummer Rob Garcia reside.

The trio will be performing Gee’s music from the recent ASC release ‘Dragonfly’. Robert Shore of Jazzwise Magazine says ‘The fire and invention that marked his recent performances with Pharoah Sanders are in full evidence on this disc. Gee has a persuasively lucid touch when it comes to exploring even the knottiest clusters of notes…and a fast talking intensity that endows his playing with gritty elegance’.

The International Showcase Fund has really given this project wings, and with the exposure to the top promoters, agents and journalists that Rochester International Jazz Festival brings, this is the perfect opportunity for Gee to continue to establish himself on the US scene.
