The work of Three Choirs Festival charity Mindsong led to the commission of Joseph Phibbs’ new orchestral fantasia, Memento Musica, which explores themes connected to music and memory. This moving overture was inspired by Mr Phibbs’ visits at dementia music therapy sessions in various care homes around Gloucestershire. Mr Phibbs observations of the power of music to stimulate memory for dementia sufferers and noting the way that some of the pieces played during the sessions resonated especially well, bringing memories alive. The power of music has the ability to stimulate memory and creates a valuable perspective gained from dementia sufferers.
