Katie Malco: Open Fund for Music Creators

Critically acclaimed UK singer-songwriter Katie Malco releases her debut album ‘Failures’ on 5th June via 6131 Records – a coming of age record that, through soul-baring songwriting and gut-punch guitars, documents Malco’s life growing up and facing adulthood. ‘Failures’ finds Malco taking all she’s learned in recent years, both personally and musically, and combining both with an unmatched songwriting prowess. She’s both vulnerable and intense, pouring herself into each song with an uncanny relatability. Armed with only an old telecaster that’s seen better days (played upside down) and her voice, Malco has toured the UK and mainland Europe with the likes of Julien Baker, Jenny Lewis, Bob Mould, Dawes, This is the Kit, BC Camplight, The Joy Formidable and more. Chosen by NPR as one of their 12 highlighted artists of SXSW this year and included in their Austin 100, Malco is also seeing support for the album across the board ahead of its release from the likes of Stereogum, Consequence of Sound, CLASH, London In Stereo, GoldFlakePaint, BBC6Music, Radio 1, Radio X, BBC Introducing and more. ‘Failures’ is set against the background of an abusive alcoholic stepparent, during a period where Malco found herself a sofa-surfing teenager in the industrial midlands town she grew up in, leaning on intoxicants to get through. However, it ends at a place of acceptance and surrender – a beam of hope shimmers in the distance as the album draws to a close and Malco utters her last breath.
