Kayla Painter: Women Make Music
‘Fractures’ – Debut album record, release and tour
Enigmatic producer, musician and AV performer Kayla Painter has made a name for herself around the UK with her unique compositions and her trailblazing live performances. Always pushing the boundaries, Painter is an artist that creates new paths. Her practice, intrigued by our relationship to sound and our environment, has landed ‘Best New Music’ with Steve Lamacq, seen her become a firm favourite across 6Music via Mary Anne Hobbs, Nemone, Ravenscroft, and BBC3’s Hannah Peel. She’s supported Carl Cox, Rival Consoles, appeared on panel discussions with Laurie Anderson, and was selected by Gilles Peterson for his scheme Future Bubblers.
Painter will use the Women Make Music fund to complete her long awaited debut album set for release in Autumn 2024. This fund will support her biggest work to date, celebrating her journey as a producer and musician as well as a live performer. The funding will allow Kayla to realise her ideas creatively, and help to produce a truly boundary pushing album, showcasing her best work to her biggest audience to date. The album is intrinsically linked to pioneering discoveries made in our solar system, commenting on our life on earth and our relationship with time, which will be echoed in the creative direction of the artwork and videos accompanying the release, as well as the subsequent live performances around the UK.
