Kemi Ade: Women Make Music
The Fix Mixtape by Kemi Ade
The Fix Mixtape is an immersive collection of between 10-12 songs filled with progressive R&B exploration. The project illustrates the toxic thoughts and behaviours we may encounter in our romantic relationships, and how we navigate said relationships through the initial realisation of how we are being treated, to the cycle of repeating said characteristics with another. Kemi plays around with double entendres in songs like ‘Fwith You’ & ‘Trip’ (Produced by Sam Barsh: Kanye West, Anderson .Paak) – singing boisterously about how she wants a significant other to ‘come through, take a hit’. Gaslight (Produced by Simon Byrt) plays strength to Kemi’s musical influence of 90s Brit-Pop and overall Indie essence. While equally melodically crying to a significant other about the emotions behind feeling manipulated.

5683 is a play on the numbers on our phone keypads, that with the letters, create LOVE. Kemi sings ‘love is just an access code’ denoting the idea that you have to push the right buttons with your significant lover to gain access. The Fix Influences: Grunge, Grit, Sexiness, Red, Love, Relationships, Wong Kar Wai, Black, Shadows
