‘Buaidh nam Ban’: a studio album inspired by female bards

‘Buaidh nam Ban’ (The Influence of Women), celebrates the rich contributions of women to Scotland’s poetry. For centuries, women were prohibited from writing and composing, and were regularly punished, exiled and even buried face down if found doing so. ‘Buaidh nam Ban’ was a project written for the Blas Festival in the Scottish Highlands. For this project, I collected stories of female bards and their poetry that survived through our oral tradition. I reworked these stories and pieces of poetry and set them to new music. I contributed my own lyrics too. Alongside long-term collaborator and award-winning musician, Innes White, I will co-produce an album of these tracks which will feature musicians I regularly work and collaborate with as well as featured guests (to be announced on the lead up to release).
