Knockengorroch: The Open Fund for Organisations
Knockengorroch World Ceilidh 2016, the thirtieth festival, is now in its nineteenth year of production. We bring music of quality and diverse genres to an upland rural glen to promote multi-cultural musical genres and explore parallels and commonalities in music, culture and history, attracting up to 3000 people.
Our festival programme introduces exceptional music to a wider audience. Both high profile recognised artists and other lesser known/emerging and local artists perform on our stages. Curation slots are offered to established Scottish and UK music promoters/producers to inject a measure of contemporary innovation, extend musical appreciation and increase audience reach. 90% of our programming represents UK artists, providing development opportunities for new artists and supporting the British music industry.
The relaxed, creative and positive atmosphere that pervades the event creates the opportunity for artists to meet and network. World Ceilidh has always encouraged musical collaboration between artists. Unique to Knockengorroch is the Celtic Longhouse venue, designed and built ‘in-house’. This venue has been built using indigenous materials and traditional methods and provides an atmospheric venue for acoustic intimate performance. Several artists booked on more conventional World Ceilidh performance stages also perform here. The venue emphasises the importance of context and participation as part of the experience of a live performance, for both performer and audience. Many high profile musicians have formed unique collaborations and enjoyed very special moments in this very special venue, the gem of Knockengorroch.
