LAUSSE THE CAT: PPL Momentum Music Fund
Short Project Title: LAUSSE THE CAT: THE MOCKING STARS LIVE
Bio: Lausse the Cat is one of the UK’s most distinctive independent artists, blending hip-hop, jazz, soul and psychedelic influences into richly cinematic songs that exist within an expansive, self-contained universe. Following a seven-year hiatus, he returned in 2025 with The Mocking Stars, an entirely independent release that became one of the year’s biggest underground success stories, reaching Number 1 on both the Official Hip Hop & R&B Albums Chart and the Official Independent Albums Chart. Support from the PPL Momentum Music Fund will help bring the album to the stage through an immersive London theatre residency featuring a full live band, theatrical staging, set design and costumes inspired by The Mocking Stars. The grant will directly contribute towards venue hire and rehearsal sessions, enabling the team to develop and realise the production to a high standard while remaining independent. The residency is intended as a proof of concept for a future European theatre tour, creating a live experience unlike a conventional rap show and marking the next chapter in Lausse the Cat’s evolution.
