Leo Chadburn: The Composers’ Fund
Leo Chadburn (AKA Simon Bookish) is a composer and performer from London. His unpredictable work includes avant-pop, dramatic solo performances featuring his own vocals, remixes and electronic music, and scores for film and installation art. His work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 1, 3 and 6 Music and Resonance FM. He won a 2016 British Composer Award (Ivors Composer Award) for “Freezywater”, commissioned by Apartment House, and a nomination the following year for “Affix Stamp Here”, commissioned by EXAUDI. Other ensembles who have performed his music include Britten Sinfonia, Quatour Bozzini and Phaedra.
The award of the PRS Foundation Composers Fund will allow Leo Chadburn to make studio recordings and release an album of his distinctive, atmospheric music for ensembles and speaking voices, consolidating a decade’s work and making this music accessible to an international audience. Featuring performances from a number of key musicians associated with experimental music in the UK, the album will include music inspired by ecology, entomology, psychogeography, the deep ocean and the M25 motorway!
